Hybrid Inverters

Sunseeker Series

Hybrid solar systems combine the best of grid-tied and off-grid solar systems. These systems can either be described as off-grid solar with utility backup power, or grid-tied solar with extra battery storage.
If you own a grid-tied solar system and drive a vehicle that runs on electricity, you already kind of have a hybrid setup. The electrical vehicle is really just a battery with wheels.

Hybrid Inverter Systems

In a hybrid solar system, energy generated from the solar panels is first used to service the home’s electrical loads. After the home’s energy needs have been supplied, solar power is used to charge the solar battery. If there is still a surplus of solar energy, it will be exported to the electric grid in return for credits. The system pictured above shows an AC-coupled lithium battery, but hybrid systems can also be designed using either lithium or lead-acid-based DC batteries.

Benefits of Hybrid Solar Systems

1

Less Expensive than Off-Grid Solar Systems

Hybrid solar systems are less expensive than off-grid solar systems. You don’t really need a backup generator, and the capacity of your battery bank can be downsized.
If your battery runs out of charge at night, you can simply buy off-peak electricity from the utility company. This will be much cheaper than operating a generator.

2

Become energy self-sufficient

Solar panels happen to output the most electrical power at noon – not long before the price of electricity peaks. Your home and electrical vehicle can be programmed to consume power during off-peak hours (or from your solar panels).
Consequently, you can temporarily store whatever excess electricity your solar panels generate in your batteries, and put it on the utility grid when you are paid the most for every kWh.

Sunseeker Hybrid Inverter Installation

Select the mount location

– Sunseeker series is with protection class IP65 and can be used outdoors.
– Choose the solid wall to install the inverter.
– Mount the inverter at eye level.
– Adequate heat dissipation space must be provided for the inverter.
– The ambient temperature should be between-25~60℃(-13~140℉)to ensure optimal operation.

GRID & LOAD & GEN connection

– Before connecting AC inputs and outputs, the circuit breaker must be opened to avoid the risk of electric shock and must not be operated with electricity.
– Check that the cable used is sufficient for the requirements, too thin, poor quality cables are a serious safety hazard.

Battery connection

– Before connecting battery, the circuit breaker must be opened to avoid the risk of electric shock and must not be operated with electricity.
– Make sure that the positive and negative terminals of the battery are connected correctly and not reversed, otherwise the inverter may be damaged.
– Check that the cable used is sufficient for the requirements, too thin, poor quality cables are a serious safety hazard.

PV connection

– Before connecting PV, the circuit breaker must be opened to avoid the risk of electric shock and must not be operated with electricity.
– Make sure that the open circuit voltage of the PV modules in series does not exceed the Max. Open Circuit Voltage of the inverter (this value is 500V), otherwise the inverter may be damaged.

Grounding

The grounding cable should have a diameter of not less than 4 mm² and be as close as possible to the grounding point.

Final assembly

After ensuring that the wiring is reliable and the wire sequence is correct, install the terminal protection cover in place.

Caution

– Do not install the inverter where highly flammable materials are near by.
– Do not install the inverter in potential explosive areas.
– Do not install the inverter with lead-acid batteries in a confined space.
– Do not install the inverter in direct sunlight.
– Do not install or use the inverter in a humid environment.
